Community Safety Info: Living With Bobcats

kmw-bobcat_400.jpg
Recently, a large cat was spotted in the area of Calle Burolla and Fraijo Avenue in the city of Irwindale, prompting concern from the community. Officers from our Police Department responded and checked the area, however the cat was not located.

After consulting the California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW), it was determined that the cat was most likely a wild bobcat.

Bobcats are by nature wary of people and may not pose a significant threat to human safety. However, unprotected pets and livestock may be at risk.

If you live near or where bobcats and other wildlife also live, precautions such as removing potential food sources, securing pets and livestock, and not feeding wildlife are key in reducing human-wildlife conflict and preventing the loss of pets and livestock.

More information on living with bobcats can be found at https://www.wildlife.ca.gov/Keep-Me-Wild/Bobcat#541542297-secure-pets-and-livestock
