MEDIA RELEASE - Motorcyclist Dies In Fatal Traffic Collision

Irwindale, California – Thursday, February 6, 2020:  On Thursday, February 6, 2020, at about 12:49 P.M., Irwindale police officers responded to the report of an injury traffic collision involving a motorcycle and a tractor-trailer at the intersection of Live Oak Avenue and Stewart Avenue in the city of Irwindale.

On arrival, officers discovered a motorcyclist traveling westbound on Live Oak Avenue collided with the trailer of a tractor-trailer rig, which was making a left turn from eastbound on Live Oak Avenue to northbound on Stewart Avenue, causing the motorcyclist to be ejected from the motorcycle.    

The motorcyclist, an adult male, had multiple traumatic injuries as a result of the collision.  He was pronounced deceased at the scene by Los Angeles County Fire Department paramedics. The driver of the tractor-trailer, an adult male, remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigating officers. He was not injured in the collision.

The east- and westbound lanes of Live Oak Avenue between Baldwin Park Boulevard and Commerce Drive, as well as the intersection of Live Oak Avenue and Stewart Avenue, were closed for approximately eight hours due to the collision investigation.

The cause of the collision remains under investigation and it is not yet known if drugs or alcohol are a factor in the collision.

The identity of the deceased party is not being released at this time, pending notification of the next of kin by the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office.
