MEDIA RELEASE ~ Fatal Traffic Collision Investigation Closes Lower Azusa Road at the 605 Freeway

Media Release

Irwindale, CA:  On Sunday, November 15, 2020, at about 5:36 A.M., Irwindale police officers responded to a report of an injury traffic collision involving solo passenger vehicle on Lower Azusa Road, west of the 605 Freeway overpass, in the city of Irwindale.

On arrival, our officers discovered a white 2018 Chevrolet Cruz traveling eastbound on Lower Azusa Road, west of the 605 Freeway overpass, crossed over the center line and collided with a Southern California Edison (SCE) utility pole on the north side of Lower Azusa Road.

Responding officers found that driver of the Chevrolet, an adult female, was unconscious and non-responsive. Officers immediately began life saving measures, including C.P.R., until paramedics from the Los Angeles County Fire Department arrived.

Unfortunately, these measures were unsuccessful and the female was pronounced deceased at the scene. There were no other parties or vehicles involved in the traffic collision.

The westbound lanes of Lower Azusa Road at the 605 Freeway overpass were closed for approximately 5 hours during the traffic collision investigation.

The deceased party is an adult female. Her identity is not being released at this time, pending notification of her next of kin by the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office.

The cause of this traffic collision remains under investigation and it is not yet known if drugs or alcohol were a factor in the collision.

Anyone with information regarding this traffic collision is encouraged to contact Traffic Investigator Officer Shawn Cory at (626) 430-2244 or by email at scory@irwindaleca.gov.
