MEDIA RELEASE ~ Suspect Arrested After Holiday Party Dispute Ends in Gunfire

Irwindale, California: On Saturday, December 25, 2021, at about 2:23 A.M., an Irwindale police officer was patrolling the area of Tapia Street and 4th Street in the city of Irwindale when he heard a volley of gunfire coming from a residential tract south of his location.  The officer broadcast this information to other officers, who responded to the area to investigate.

On arrival, an officer was driving south on Fraijo Avenue from Calle Burolla when he heard a second volley of gunfire coming from mid-block on Fraijo Avenue, south of his location. The officer saw a black Dodge pick-up truck leave the area at a high rate of speed, going south on Fraijo Avenue, then east on Cypress Street.  Officers located the pick-up truck and made a high-risk stop in the area of Cypress Street and Irwindale Avenue. The officers detained two occupants in the vehicle, eventually locating a loaded handgun, ammo magazines, and a number of spent and unspent rounds of ammunition inside the pick-up truck.

At about the same time, our dispatch center began to receive 9-1-1 calls reporting gunshots that were fired outside a residence in the 4600 block of Fraijo Avenue.  Additional officers responded to that location and discovered a dispute at a holiday party between the passenger of the pick-up truck and occupants of the residence resulted in the pick-up truck passenger firing a number of gunshots upon leaving the residence. The suspect entered the pick-up truck with a second subject driving. The suspect fired additional gunshots towards the house as they left the area.

No one reported being injured in the incident and a handgun and other evidence was recovered during the investigation.

Officers arrested Jorge A. Alvarez, a 36-year-old resident of Los Angeles, on a number of weapons- and narcotics-related charges, including negligent discharge of a firearm, possession of a loaded firearm in a vehicle, and possession of a controlled substance.  He was booked at the jail and later released after posting $35,000.00 bail.

Our Detective Bureau is actively investigating this incident. Anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who may have information regarding the crime is asked to contact Detective Diego Cornejo at (626) 430-2290 or by email at
