INVESTIGATION AFTER DANGEROUS PURSUIT OF ROBBERY SUSPECT LEADS TO ARREST
Irwindale, CA: On Thursday, December 22, 2022 at about 4:37 P.M., officers from the Irwindale Police Department responded to the report of an armed robbery in the 6600 block of Irwindale Avenue in the city of Irwindale.
Officers quickly located the suspect and his vehicle, a black Honda Accord, on Gladstone Street and Dugan Avenue in the city of Azusa. They attempted a high-risk vehicle stop; however, the suspect did not stop for the officers’ emergency lights and sirens and actively fled from the patrol cars. A 40 minutes, 28-mile vehicle pursuit then ensued, which traveled through the cities of Irwindale, Azusa, Duarte, Bradbury, Monrovia, Arcadia, Sierra Madre, Pasadena and Alta Dena on both surface streets and on the 210 (Foothill) Freeway.
During the pursuit, the suspect drove at speeds as high as 95 miles per hour, failed to stop for stop signs and red signals, crossed over centerlines and traveled on the wrong side of roadways. Due to the suspect’s dangerous driving and the immense threat he posed to the community, the pursuit was ultimately terminated in the city of Alta Dena.
Subsequent investigation revealed the suspect had attempted to rob cell phones and other items while armed with a large hammer. Seven (7) victims were identified; including two children aged 7 and 8. None of the victims were injured in the incident; however, the suspect damaged a number of vehicles with the hammer, which was recovered at the scene.
Irwindale police detectives immediately initiated an investigation into the crimes and quickly identified the suspect. The investigation lead to the arrest of the suspect, Hector Damian Silvaruiz, a 34-year-old resident of Glendora, in the city of Baldwin Park.
Silvaruiz was charged with a number of felonies, including robbery, assault with a deadly weapon, evading arrest, vandalism, and a number of vehicle code violations. He is being held at the West Covina City Jail on $75,000.00 bail.
