Impounded Vehicles
General Information
In the course of official duties the Irwindale Police Department stores or impounds motor vehicles for a variety of reasons, as authorized by law.

Vehicle Release
To obtain the release of a stored or impounded vehicle, you must present all of the following at the police department’s lobby, anytime, 24-hours a day. The police department’s lobby is located at the Irwindale Police Department, 5050 N. Irwindale Avenue, Irwindale, CA 91706:
- Valid driver’s license
- Proof that you are the current registered owner or legal owner of the vehicle
- Payment of appropriate fee (cash only)
Fee Information
A administrative fee is charged to offset the cost to the city for the impounding of vehicles. All City of Irwindale fees must be paid in cash (checks, money orders and/or credit/debit cards are not accepted):
Regular Vehicle Storage Fee: $75.00
Misdemeanor Suspended or No Drivers License Vehicle Storage: $150.00
Driving Under the Influence Vehicle Storage: $400.00
Official Police Tow Yards and Fees
You must first obtain a release from the police department prior to picking up your vehicle, or prior to retrieving property from your vehicle, at the tow yard. Vehicle releases and authorization to retrieve property from impounded vehicles, are available anytime, 24-hours a day at the police department’s lobby located at the Irwindale Police Department, 5050 N. Irwindale Avenue, Irwindale, CA 91706.
Contact the Communications Bureau at (626) 430-2244 to determine which tow company towed the vehicle. Tow company fees will vary with the type of vehicle stored and the time elapsed since the date of storage. Please contact the tow company directly for their fee schedule.

Storage or Impound Hearings
Individuals questioning the validity of the storage or impound can request an impound review, which is conducted by the on-duty Watch Commander, 24-hours a day. This review can be conducted on the phone, in person or in writing.
A thorough review of the facts of the impound or storage will be conducted to insure compliance with applicable laws. The results of the finding will be given to the individual at the conclusion of the review or as soon as possible.
