Assisting Homeowners & Families

The Housing Department assists the very low to moderate income community in meeting their affordable housing needs in the areas of home ownership opportunities, economic development, and capital improvements. The department implements the city's various housing assistance programs, which include first time ownership opportunities for families who qualify and administering the application process for the Las Casitas senior apartment complex. The City of Irwindale will continue to expand its current efforts regarding fair housing in order to serve the needs of local residents.

Senate Bill 341

This Housing Successor Annual Report regarding low and moderate income housing has been prepared pursuant to California Health and Safety Code Section 34176.1.

California Assembly Bill 987

Assembly Bill 987 (AB 987) (PDF), which became effective in January 2008, places several new requirements on California redevelopment agencies with regard to their affordable housing programs. First, agencies must maintain and publish on the internet a database of restricted housing units. Second, a Notice of Affordable Restrictions on Transfer of Property must be recorded on new or substantially rehabilitated housing created as part of a low and moderate income housing program. Third, AB 987 extends to certain members of the public enforcement of affordability covenants and restrictions. Fair Housing Service Information

The Housing Rights Center (HRC) provides free fair housing services to Irwindale residents and community members. HRC offers housing discrimination complaint investigation, landlord / tenant counseling, predatory lending referrals, outreach and education, and legal and advocacy services. Foreclosure Assistance

An informational guide regarding foreclosure assistance is available through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). The HUD website will also assist and direct you with several links to helpful resources and information regarding foreclosure aid.

995HOPE is an alliance between counselors, mortgage companies, investors, and other mortgage market participants that maximizes outreach efforts to homeowners in distress. This alliance attempts to help homeowners stay in their homes and will create a unified, coordinated plan to reach and help as many homeowners as possible. The members of this alliance recognize that by working together, they will be more effective than by working independently.
